John Paul II Foundation for Sport
Year Five are embarking on the John Paul II Foundation for Sports Programme. We will be developing our own attitude towards sports whilst focusing on the following virtues:
- Team work
JP2F4S aims to enable an ever increasing number of people – in particular the young – to achieve the holistic fulfilment of their potential by acquiring the life skills – call them virtues – taught and lived by St John Paul and which cannot be learned in front of a screen but can be learned through reflecting on sport and physical education.
Half Term 1:
HALF TERM 2: COVENANTS
We have been having some in depth discussions about God's power and His anger. Our focus has been the Old Testaments and looking at the life of Abram (Abraham), Noah and Moses. God made covenants which each man: but were the covenants fulfilled?
By entering Advent we turn our thoughts towards Jesus. God promised he would send the Messiah to guide and lead us - The ultimate convenant made between God and us.
Half Term 3: Inspirational People
HT4 - Reconciliation
This half term has kicked off with a bang. The children have already started posing meaningful questions about reconciliation and forgiveness. One example being - 'Can a priest tell the police if someone has committed a horrendous crime?' We discussed this question in depth with some children disagreeing with the Seal of Confession... The sacramental seal is inviolable. Quoting Canon 983.1 of the Code of Canon Law, the Catechism states, "...It is a crime for a confessor in any way to betray a penitent by word or in any other manner or for any reason" (No. 2490). A priest, therefore, cannot break the seal to save his own life, to protect his good name, to refute a false accusation, to save the life of another, to aid the course of justice (like reporting a crime), or to avert a public calamity. It has been great to see the children maturing in their questioning this year and I am sure they will all continue to develop this over the rest of the year.

Term 1: Coasts
We have been working hard to identify a variety of different coastal features. We have looked at the impact of weathering, discussed and researched coastal land features (caves, arches, stacks and stumps) and have debated which coastal defence is the most effective and why.
